Green Cotton Air Filter (2) 18/09/03

The nodules and the corners trimed.
Initially I tried to fit the filter in the same direction as the original with the 'lip' pointing into the wing of the car. However I found that the filter was around 5mm to tall for this and so decided to reverse it as shown. This should not cause a problem as I don’t believe the filter to be directional (However if anyone known this not to be the case then let me know.).
I was unable to install the filter in this direction either. It would fit in the middle but not the ends. In order to understand why this was I removed the filter box by un clipping the hose's (shown in blue on other page) and undoing the clips for the Air and breather pipes.
With the box removed the problem could be seen. The filter was still a 2-3mm to tall but would flex the middle of the box. To get around this I decided to persuade the ends of the filter closer with a small piece of wood and a hammer (dont you just love hand made parts). Once tweaked it was a nice snug fit ready for installing.
Which if you have not figured is just the two bolts and reconnect the hose's.
A word of warning : While doing this I seem to have knocked off the wire to the starter motor. If you get back in your car and get nothing when you turn the key check this first.
